I wore my Bombas compression socks on a recent flight back from Hawaii and was impressed with the amount of circulation they helped create in my body. And not to mention - they looked super cute with my outfit. Between the materials, construction, and overall design, it’s clear Bombas hit a home run with this sock -- and now I totally understand the hype.

  • ★★★★★

The fabric quality was the first thing I noticed when I went to slip on these socks. Made from 64% Cotton, 17% Polyester, 13% Nylon, and a bit of Spandex, you can feel just how durable these socks are. Constructed with extra-durable yarn that’s resistant to wear and tear, I intuitively knew my washing machine wouldn’t be able to eat away at these socks as it has done in the past.

  • ★★★★★

I wear a size 9 shoe and decided to get a size medium in their compression socks. The medium fit my feet perfectly - but just be aware, these socks are tight. When I went to pull them on my feet, it took a solid minute of slowly working the fabric over my foot and up my ankle and calf. Once I was able to get these socks nestled into the right spot, I was surprised at how incredibly comfortable they were. The compression hit all the right spots and I never once felt that they were too tight or confining.

  • ★★★★☆

Priced at $84 for a 3-pack of socks, they are definitely on the higher end and could potentially be out of reach for some customers. However, their focus on sustainability and their giving back program makes the price more than justifiable.

In 2017, Bombas received a B Corp certification which is only awarded to companies that achieve the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. As 1 out of ~2,700+ Certified B Corps from 64 countries, getting this award is a pretty big deal. Some of their initiatives include designing with durability in mind so fewer clothing items end up in landfills, using recycled materials and fabric, as well as partnering with experts at For Days to offer a Take Back Bag, which customers can use to recycle their old clothing to keep them out of landfills.

Pros:

  • Made with high-quality, soft materials

  • Constructed for comfortability and durability

  • The perfect amount of compression in all the right spots, without feeling too tight

  • Available in multiple colors

Cons:

  • The price may be out of reach for some customers

Bombas: What To Know About the Brand

Like many of you reading, I first became familiar with the Bombas brand during an evening spent binge-watching Shark Tank. Since their feature on the TV show (where they just so happened to turn out to be one of the greatest success stories thus far), Bombas has been making waves in what used to be a rather mundane retail segment: socks.

What makes Bombas different from other competitors is their giving back program. For every clothing item purchased, a clothing item of the same kind is donated to those experiencing homelessness. And because of their strong focus on giving back and their approach to rigorously testing for comfort and durability, Bombas has since expanded into producing underwear and t-shirts. Their 100% Happiness Guarantee also means their customer support team is available to make recommendations or provide a refund if needed.

Bombas Compression Socks Review

Having followed this brand for years, I was super excited to see for myself if Bombas lived up to their reputation. And spoiler alert: they did. The following is a review of the Women’s Multi-Color Everyday Compression Sock 3-Pack (15-20mmHg) from Bombas.

Unpacking and First Impressions

My compression socks arrived quickly in a royal blue shipping mailer with the Bombas logo painted across. I was pleased to see the socks weren’t wrapped in additional plastic when I opened up the mailer (which if you’ve read our reviews before, we despise when brands include tons of fulfillment materials that just goes to waste). The socks were joined by a simple paper sleeve that gave more information about the brand and the giving back program. But what I appreciated most about the unpacking experience was what wasn’t there: those thin plastic connectors that almost every other pair of socks have. You know that thin little plastic thing that you try to rip off with your teeth (which never works), or damages the sock when you pull it apart with your hands? I could tell just from the packaging that Bombas was thoughtful about how to send the socks with minimal waste, making it easy for the wearer to slip on and go.

Sizing and Fit

I wear a size 9 shoe and decided to get a size medium in their compression socks. The medium fit my feet perfectly - but just be aware, these socks are tight. When I went to pull them on my feet, it took a solid minute of slowly working the fabric over my foot and up my ankle and calf. I’d equate it to getting in a wetsuit. It sucks for about a minute while you wiggle around uncomfortably, but once it’s on, it fits like a glove. Once I was able to get these socks nestled into the right spot, I was surprised at how incredibly comfortable they were. The compression hit all the right spots and I never once felt that they were too tight or confining.

Quality of Materials

The fabric quality was the first thing I noticed when I went to slip on these socks. Made from 64% Cotton, 17% Polyester, 13% Nylon, and a bit of Spandex, you can feel just how durable these socks are. Constructed with extra-durable yarn that’s resistant to wear and tear, I intuitively knew my washing machine wouldn’t be able to eat away at these socks like it has done in the past. And when it comes to overall construction, the Bombas team didn’t skimp here. The Y-Stitched Heel creates a natural cup around your heel, the Honeycomb Support System cradles the arch of your foot, and the Seamless Toe creates a smooth toe with no annoying bump. Who would’ve thought a single sock could include this many features?

Overall Design

I wore my Bombas compression socks on a recent flight back from Hawaii and was impressed with the amount of circulation they helped create in my body. And not to mention - they looked super cute with my outfit. The 3-pair I selected included the colors gray, white and black. However, you have the option to select a single color for all three socks or the vibrant pine yellow mix (which I plan on purchasing next). Between the materials, construction, and overall design, it’s clear Bombas hit a home run with this sock -- and now I totally understand the hype.

Sustainability Efforts

In 2017, Bombas received a B Corp certification which is only awarded to companies that achieve the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. As 1 out of ~2,700+ Certified B Corps from 64 countries, getting this award is a pretty big deal. Some of their initiatives include designing with durability in mind so fewer clothing items end up in landfills, using recycled materials and fabric, as well as partnering with experts at For Days to offer a Take Back Bag, which customers can use to recycle their old clothing to keep them out of landfills.

Between the giving back program, their B Corp certification, and their overall focus on creating high-quality products, Bombas is a leader of the pack. I hope more brands follow suit and use Bombas as an example of how they can scale their business in a positive and sustainable way.

Value for Money

Priced at $84 for a 3-pack of socks, they are definitely on the higher end and could potentially be out of reach for some customers. However, their focus on sustainability and their giving back program makes the price more than justifiable. Not to mention I plan to own these socks for life (no joke) and I’m confident they’ll stand the test of time.

The Bottom Line

If you’re constantly on-the-go and find yourself traveling often (which let’s be real, most of you reading this are), I highly recommend you invest in the Everyday Compression Sock 3-Pack (15-20mmHg).  They’ll last you a lifetime and will make traveling and being on your feet for long periods of time more comfortable. Not to mention they go with just about any outfit - so what’s there not to love?
